Dr Ian Banks BSc BAO BCh MB MSc PhD, Men's Health Forum

Ian Banks works as an A&E doctor, general practitioner and medical journalist. He represents doctors for the British Medical Association as a member of Council for the UK and is also deputy editor of the Men's Health Journal. He is President of Men's Health Forum

Peter Baker, Men's Health Forum

Peter Baker is chief executive of the Men's Health Forum, was health editor of Maxim magazine from 1995-99 and writes on men's health for a wide range of other publications.

Dr John Chisholm CBE, GP

John Chisholm is a member of the Councils of the Royal College of General Practitioners, Vice-President and member of the British Medical Association (BMA) and a member of the BMA's Patient Liaison Group. He is also a Director of Concordia Health.

Dr Michael Dixon OBE, FRCGP and chairman, NHS Alliance

Michael Dixon has worked as a GP in Cullompton, Devon for the last 24 years. He has been chair of NHS Alliance since 1998, is primary based commissioning lead on Lord Darzi's advisory group and visiting professor to the University of Westminster (Integrated School of Health).

Dr Simon Fradd, GP

Simon Fradd trained at Westminster Medical School and currently practices in Nottingham, Camberwell and Dulwich. He is a specialist in general and urological surgery and chairman of Concordia Health. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2004.

Professor David Haslam CBE, GP

David Haslam works as a GP in Cambridgeshire, is visiting professor in Primary Health Care at de Montfort University, Leicester and was chairman of the Royal College of General Practioners from 2001 to 2004. He has written numerous books and articles for the medical and lay press.

Sheila Kelly, chief executive, PAGB (Proprietary Association of Great Britain)

Sheila Kelly is a trained pharmacist, and has been chief executive at PAGB since 1990.

She represents the UK industry on the Boards of the European Proprietary Medicines Manufacturers' Association (AESGP) and the World Self Medication Industry. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Dr Raj Patel, NHS Alliance, Tameside and Glossop PCT and NHS North West

Raj Patel is a GP in Greater Manchester, Professional Executive Committee chair for NHS Tameside & Glossop and former GP adviser to the Department of Health. He has written a weekly medical column in the Daily Express and is a regular commentator in print and broadcast on health matters.

Professor Mike Pringle CBE, University of Nottingham

Mike Pringle is professor of general practice at the University of Nottingham, medical director of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and helps to run Collingham Healthcare Education Centre. He was chairman of the Royal College of General Practitioners from 1998 - 2001.

Gopa Mitra MBE, director of health policy & public affairs, PAGB (Proprietary Association of Great Britain)

Gopa Mitra is director of health policy & public affairs at PAGB, was on the Government's NHS Modernisation Action Team, the Inequalities and Public Health Task Force and was a member of the Working in Partnership Programme Advisory Group. She is a Trustee and Officer of Men's Health Forum.

Sara Richards BSc, Registered General Nurse

Sara Richards is a practice nurse, nurse practitioner and practice nurse facilitator for the Slough area. She is a former chair of the Royal College of Nursing Practice Nurse Association and has written several articles in nursing journals on how to self-care for various minor ailments.

Douglas Smallwood, Chief Executive, Diabetes UK

Douglas Smallwood is chief executive of Diabetes UK. He is also a co-chair of the Long Term Conditions Programme Board of East of England Strategic Health Authority, and a trustee of National Voices.

Dr Peter Smith OBE, vice president, National Association of Primary Care

Peter Smith has worked as a GP for over 13 years in Kingston-upon-Thames and is a member of the National Inequalities and Public Health Task Force. He also recently edited 'The Handbook of Primary Care Trusts'.

Professor Nigel Sparrow, GP, Nottinghamshire

Nigel Sparrow is principle and senior partner at the Newthorpe Medical Centre in Eastwood, Nottingham. He is Chair of the Professional Development Board of the Royal College of General Practitioners and was previously Vice Chairman of Council between 2004 and 2007.

Dr Paul Stillman, GP

Paul Stillman works in a large busy general practice in Crawley, Sussex. He is trainer and director of one of the UK's largest vocational training schemes, the British Postgraduate Medical Federation. He also writes extensively, and makes appearances on both radio and television.

Susan Summers, assistant director of quality assurance and self care, NHS North West Strategic Health Authority

Susan Summers is a registered nurse and assistant director of quality assurance and self care at NHS North West Strategic Health Authority. She established the North West Self Care Forum, and was co-facilitator of the NHS Next Stage Review Clinical Pathway Group for Long Term Conditions.

Lynn Young, Registered General Nurse

Lynn Young works as Primary Healthcare Adviser for the Royal College of Nursing. She facilitates the Working in Partnership Programme (WiPP) projects, is on the Royal Society of Medicine General Practice Council and was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal College General Practitioners FRCGP (Hons) in 2004.
